The picture below left shows Pete standing next to the 4.9m (16ft) rotating dome observatory. The shed
on the far right houses Patrick's marvellous 5" Cooke Refractor, also
in need of some tender loving care - the next project maybe. (There are also two other large observatories in the gardens
- including a long focus 8" Newtonian Reflector in a rotating glass dome, and an alt-az mounted 12" Newt in a run-off shed.)

The picture below right shows the winding mechanism used to rotate the dome. It is very effective if rather noisy!
